My most recent encounter with other people was when we visited our dad in Jakarta, Indonesia. The people there are very friendly but they do not know much english. So that communicating with them is hard because of their lack of english, but it is ok with me. Pork is not common there since it is a muslim country but it is fine with me. That is their belief and I don't want to meddle with what they believe.
The people there are like Filipino people, friendly and seemingly always smiling. So I, taking aside the language their, it is like in the Philippines and I am happy when I am there. The people also doesn't look much different from Filipinos.

I am glad you were able to thrive in a different environment with different people and more than noticing differences, you were able to see how much you have in common.
